Rebates can take a real bite out of the price of a new furnace, air conditioner or heat pump. They also come and go, change amounts, and have deadlines, so here's how the main ones work.
Carrier Cool Cash
As a Carrier factory-authorized dealer, we can offer Carrier's Cool Cash rebates on qualifying Carrier systems. Cool Cash runs in seasons, usually one in spring and one in fall:
- Fall 2026: qualifying systems sold August 1 through November 20, 2026, installed and claimed by December 20, 2026.
- Spring: typically runs from about March through May.
The amount depends on the equipment, and generally the higher-efficiency systems carry larger rebates. We'll tell you which systems on your quote qualify and for how much, and how to claim it.
Local heat pump rebates
If you're switching from gas, propane or wood heat to an electric heat pump, your local electricity program may help. Which one depends on who supplies your electricity:
- City of Santa Barbara: Santa Barbara Clean Energy runs a heat pump rebate program for its customers.
- Goleta, Carpinteria, Montecito, the Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang and Buellton: Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) offers heat pump rebates to its customers.
- The whole county: 3C-REN offers heat pump incentives for homes of one to four units.
These programs run year to year while funds last. Most require replacing existing gas or wood heat with a fully electric system (not a dual-fuel system), and some require a permit. Households with lower incomes often qualify for larger amounts, and SCE's Energy Savings Assistance program can cover some upgrades outright. Check each program's page for current amounts and rules.
Gas equipment
If you're staying with gas, SoCalGas offers rebates on some high-efficiency gas equipment. They're first come, first served and can run out before their end date.
What has ended
The federal tax credit for heat pumps and other efficient equipment (25C) ended for systems installed after 2025, and the state's TECH Clean California and HEEHRA heat pump funds are fully reserved. Ask your tax advisor about anything you installed in 2025.
How to make sure you get it
- Ask before you buy. Most rebates depend on the date of sale and the exact equipment, so they need to be part of the plan, not an afterthought.
- Mind the deadlines. A system has to be sold, installed and claimed within each program's window.
- Keep your paperwork. Rebates usually need the invoice and the equipment model and serial numbers.
