Carrier Crossover Solutions
Carrier Crossover Solutions bring together the inverter technology of a ductless mini-split and the ductwork of a traditional system: a compact, variable-speed outdoor heat pump that works with standard ducted air handlers and furnaces.

Outdoor units
| Model | SEER2 | Sound (as low as) | Install |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance™ 19 Crossover Heat Pump (37MUHA) | up to 19 (12.4 EER2) | 59 dB | As close as four inches from the home; on the ground, roof or stacked |
| Comfort™ 18 Compact Mini Split Crossover Heat Pump (37MURA) | up to 18.8 (up to 9.7 HSPF2) | 55 dB | As close as six inches from the home |
Carrier lists the Performance™ 19 as ENERGY STAR® certified, with an operating range of -22°F to 122°F.
Indoor units

- Performance™ Crossover Air Handler (45MUHA): installs six ways and works with 24-volt thermostats.
- Comfort™ Crossover Air Handler (45MUAA): installs four ways and is compatible with all 24-volt thermostats.
- Multipoise Crossover Evaporator Coil (45MULA): an all-aluminum cased coil for pairing with a furnace.
- Multi-Family Crossover Fan Coil (D5MUWA): wall-mounted, with electric heat options, for apartments and condos.
Why we use them
- Works with your ductwork. Carrier describes "seamless integration with your existing residential fan coils and furnaces."
- Dual fuel. Pair the heat pump with a gas furnace, so the house is heated by whichever is more efficient at the time.
- Your choice of thermostat. Carrier lists the line as third-party thermostat compatible.
- A small outdoor unit that fits side yards and tight lots, common in Santa Barbara.
Puron Advance™ refrigerant
Carrier's current equipment uses Puron Advance™ (R-454B), which Carrier says has a global warming potential 75% lower than R-410A, the former industry standard. Carrier equipment that uses it includes a leak-detection sensor and a fan that disperses refrigerant if a leak is found.
Carrier's warranty
New Carrier equipment carries Carrier's 10-year parts limited warranty. In California you don't have to register the equipment to get it: Carrier waives its registration requirement where state law doesn't allow a warranty to depend on registration, and California is one of those places. (Elsewhere, Carrier requires registration within 90 days, or the standard 5-year parts warranty applies.) Registering is still worth doing, because it puts your equipment on record with Carrier. The warranty covers replacement installations in owner-occupied homes; new construction is not eligible. Full terms are on carrier.com.
Extended labor coverage
Carrier's warranty covers parts. To also cover the labor to fix a covered failure, we offer extended service plans. Ask us about one when we quote your system.
- Climate Shield Complete, from AIG, for Carrier equipment: covers the diagnostic fee, labor and refrigerant a covered repair needs, with no deductible and no trip fee. Up to 10 years of added coverage, available up to five years after installation on systems of five tons or less, and fully transferable to the next owner.
Plans cover mechanical and electrical failures in normal use. They don't cover routine maintenance or problems caused by a lack of it, and they require the system to be maintained every year. Coverage begins after a waiting period from purchase. Each plan's own terms and conditions are the final word on what it covers.
Specifications are Carrier's published figures ("up to") and depend on the size and the equipment it is matched with. We'll give you the rated figures for the exact system we quote.
